My love for anything in fashion and beauty developed into a career during my 18 years at HSN. Model turned stylists now Manager of the On air Look came from doing what I truly love and care about. I enjoy when I have an opportunity to get dressed and style myself. It doesn’t matter where I’m going any opportunity is an opportunity to create. Style is personal, it’s even emotional at times. I believe it’s an extension of oneself, home, lifestyle and destination all wrapped into one fabulous look and feeling.
I hope you join me as I challenge myself on this Blog journey… It was something I’ve always wanted to do but stumbled on the answers for what I think are very important questions…. why? what about? what do I have to say? and who would read it/listen to me?? LOL. After much consideration anyone that knows me knows that I don’t do anything unless I’m feeeeeelin it… and this desire to connect, share styling ideas, beauty tips, be a source of encouragement, positive motivation and energy on a larger scale just feels right.
So here I am giving it a try… at 52 making space for the next version of me- she’s coming.
There is so much I can say about this little gem Iris Apfel … at the end of the day she is one really cool super stylish lady that doesn’t miss a beat. At 99 years old she never ceases to amaze me.
Iris and I met over 6 years ago at HSN… to be honest I had never heard of Iris Apfel. So of course I did some googling to see who and what everyone was talking about. I was totally blown away by this 92 year old fashionista!!!! I could only think WOW she is freaking amazing!!!! Iris has a distinct phenomenal style as we know- a unique eye with a very specific way of putting things together. I had never met anyone like her, yet she felt so familiar. Before our very first style meeting – let me back up a bit- You see Iris has a line at HSN its called “Rara Avis”. She would personally come to the studio days prior to her shows and style all the looks with the pieces that are airing along with with the designated stylist for her live shows. So prior to her arrival I took the liberty of fully pre-styling several looks to set the tone and hopefully break the ice so to speak upon her arrival… Yikes!!! I was so nervous!!! I was not trying to be presumptuous or arrogant, didn’t want to make more work for any of us – Dana Judge and I were the stylists working on this particular show( little did we know, we would be for every other show after this one), and my gut just told me to go with it. Style her pieces they way we felt it made sense, not only to the lines and Iris’s vision but to HSN as well. Even though we hadn’t met yet I truly felt like I got her. Dana and I had everything ready to go as best we could. So as we waited and reassured ourselves that “yeah it looks good”… “we got this”… “it makes sense”… “she will like it”. LOL. We were secretly praying ( well I was… I won’t speak for Dana- LOL) that when she arrived she was impressed and happy by what was stylishly displayed on the wall. Well needless to say she was and promptly asked “well where have you been hiding?” in her Iris voice. 🙂 and we have been styling together ever since.
Our relationship has developed into a friendship /family. We have small birthday celebrations, lunches and dinners, weekly check in phone calls and “I love you” at the end of every call. She is a fashionista on the highest level and I have the utmost respect for her. She is ALWAYS dropping gems of knowledge, but aside from all of the FABULOUSNESSS. She is down to earth, enjoys going out to eat, LOVES to shop and anything to do with fashion… and I’m honored and happy to call her my friend.
Time feels to be going so fast lately… and with that being said some of us seem to have even more time on our hands than usual #covid. Whether I’m online shopping, reading, spending time with loved ones or clicking away at The Blog 🙂 the word INTENTIONAL comes into play more and more. This word is my HAPPY word because I’ve made that decision to do whatever I’m doing and to actually be. I’m making a point to be intentional about what takes up my space- space in my thoughts, heart, mind and my soul and surroundings. There is so much going on everywhere and at the same time nothing is moving. One thing this year has shown me is that we should “Do You“. The pandemic has slowed things down. Gave us time to reflect, refocus, reboot and most importantly check ourselves. One thing I like to do every now and then is “check myself” as I feel we are always a work in progress. Taking time to look at things/ourselves differently or keep it the same, because if not now then when… right!? 🙂
So buy the shoes ya’ll! Eat the cake!… wear your sequins to the grocery store or with your!! LOL.. because yes its possible you CAN wear sequins whenever YOU want… but that is a whole other conversation or blog post 🙂 LOL.
I say this to say – being true to ourselves is the BEST thing we can do for ourselves… Like I always say – Do what makes your soul happy!!!!
Some days a still shot is an understatement, and it’s not a great pair of shoes, fabulous earrings or an amazing blazer. Sometimes we just need to BE STILL. Taking a moment from a busy day at work or when you just need a second for yourself with yourself- Be Still… Whenever I’m having one of those days… the day that you just don’t know which way is up and the answers are not coming…. or the opposite – when everything is coming at you at once sometimes you just need to BE STILL.
Let go and let God…
